The Field Academy is a bold approach to school: it transforms the space in which education occurs to meet the needs of students, their communities, and the global community by demanding that students and teachers use the world around them as their classroom and textbook. We create this education through an extended summer expedition program that brings together a diverse group of students from around the US to travel for seven weeks exploring citizenship and community. They return to their home high schools, and with the support of mid-year retreats and mentoring from the Field Academy, students integrate and share their travel experiences with their home community. They graduate from the Field Academy's program as visionary leaders with a deep understanding and commitment to enacting citizenship.
