Yoga for Youth

A yoga festival to benefit at-risk youth in San Diego

Sunday July, 17

Coronado Tidelands Park

Join Outdoor Outreach, our supporting studios and the yoga community for Outdoor Outreach’s first annual Yoga for Youth. This half-day yoga event will feature premiere yoga instructors from around San Diego leading sets of Vinyasas for a total of 108.  Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts will gather to simultaneously practice and learn about the styles, studios and instructors available to them.

The students who participate in the festival pay a $36 donation to attend the event, which benefits Outdoor Outreach. In addition, they will also be encouraged to set personal fundraising goals of$108 ($1 per salutation)and top fundraisers will receive prizes in addition to helping our community’s underserved youth.

Our mission is to empower at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming. We use yoga, in addition to our core activities: snowboarding, surfing, rock climbing and mountain biking, to provide youth with the support, relationships, and resources they need to become successful adults.

MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Mark Chaves: Meditation

Yoga came into Mark’s life as an opportunity to fine tune the physical body. Now, Yoga has become a way of life for Mark. Mark’s passion is to give back by sharing his knowledge as he continues to learn from the ancient practice of Yoga.

Mark completed a 200 hour Yoga teacher training immersion program with the School of Sacred Arts based in Bali Indonesia. The training program cultivated Mark’s ability to lead meditation, Vinyasa Flow, and Yin Yoga with an emphasis on the individual. Mark takes into consideration each person’s energetic and physical well being at any given time during practice. Previously Mark has been a certified snowboard instructor. Mark actively volunteers his time teaching at-risk and underprivileged youth how to rock climb, snowboard, and surf.

Mandy Burstein: Teen Yoga

Mandy is a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher, trained in Vinyasa Flow through Bird Rock Yoga in Pacific Beach. Mandy is deeply inspired by the strength and grace of the ocean and synchronizes her yoga classes to manifest that inspiration. As both a teacher and a forever student of yoga, she appreciates the physical benefits of the practice, but is most fulfilled by the mental and spiritual journey it takes her on. Mandy encourages her students to begin “living their yoga” by incorporating elements of their practice into their daily lives. In addition to teaching ocean-inspired vinyasa flows, she also loves teaching Full Moon Yoga, Yoga for Kids & Teens and Stand-up Paddle board (SUP) Yoga. In 2010, Mandy created Yoga Luna in an effort to bring affordable and accessible outdoor yoga to San Diego. www.yogaluna.org

Denise Rhodes: Kids Yoga

Denise discovered her passion for yoga in 1994 and became a certified instructor that same year. She created Yoga Time where she taught corporate yoga for three years.

In 2001 she was blessed with motherhood and began teaching Mommy & Me classes with her son in tow. In 2010 Tayo Kids Yoga was conceived. Denise now shares her Tayo Kids Yoga vision with a select, joyful, and loving team of yoga instructors, all of whom have extensive yoga teacher training and years of experience working with children.

Kati Reszegi: Yoga for Climbers

Coming from a traditional yogic background Kati is a student of Ashtanga Yoga. She has a deep respect and reverence for yogic tradition and finds the greatest sense of purpose in introducing people to this ancient healing art. Ongoing study with Tim Miller is by far the biggest influence in Kati’s teaching style.
