Marty's Place was founded in 1989 by a Francisan priest named Father Richard Purcell who started a living facility after finding his brother Marty afflicted with AIDS on the streets of San Francisco. Glenn Burke called the facility home at one point, and Father Purcell regularly visited Glenn in the hospital during his afflication. Father Purcell passed away this August, and the funds raised will help renovate and continue Marty's Place.

Former Lousville star and NBA player Derek Smith was on a cruise with his family in 1996 when he passed away from a heart attack. Last year, his children -- Sydney and Duke star Nolan Smith -- started this foundation to give support to other children in the same situation. The foundation hopes to meet, connect and touch the lives of grieving children.
