Designed to complement the educational based interventions the child is receiving in school. PAWS therapy teams are used as a tool in child's IEP to help the child improve communication and social skills, self-confidence and attention, and expand the child's interest. For children, ages 3 - 18, who have difficulty relating to humans, interaction with dogs is the perfect half-step for learning to connect with others. The presence of our certified therapy dogs can facilitate social interaction, social communication, and social understanding for the child. To work in this setting, advanced certification is required and this funding will be used to train & certify new therapy teams.
