Looks like we should have aimed even higher, because we just surpassed our new $20K goal! But the campaign isn't over yet. You have until March 31 to donate and EVERY DOLLAR will help fund the launch of TrevorText. Thanks for your incredible generosity and passion for saving young lives. :)
Because of the overwhelming support this campaign has received, we have nearly reached our original $10K goal in just over a month! To keep this momentum going, we're increasing our goal to $20K, which will fund the first 5,000 TrevorText conversations.
We have to acknowledge the incredible individuals who are running personal fundraising pages - check out their pages in the list to the right and consider starting your own by clicking on the blue "Become a Fundraiser" button above.
TrevorText launches in April, so your donations will have an immediate impact at the conclusion of this campaign. And remember: you can donate ANY amount - every dollar contributes to saving young lives! Thank you!
One of the primary goals of The Trevor Project is to ensure youth can reach us 24/7. The Trevor Lifeline provides this around-the-clock service, but making that call can be a scary first step for many young people. For those who aren’t able to find a safe time and place to call, it can even be impossible.
Today, teens and young adults between the ages of 13-24 are calling less and texting more, sending an average of 138 text messages a day (source: onlineschools.com). At the same time, the way young people are asking for support is also changing. According to a survey on our social networking site for LGBTQ young people, TrevorSpace, 90% of members said they would text someone for help if they were having a hard time and needed to talk.
In response, The Trevor Project is launching a new service this spring called TrevorText.
For the first time, LGBTQ youth and their allies will be able to text with one of our trained counselors from any cell phone with text messaging functionality. But because this expansion is so new, we need your help to make it happen.
Please consider making a donation or starting a personal fundraising page by clicking the blue BECOME A FUNDRAISER button above.
Starting a personal fundraising page allows you to:
- Talk about your personal connection to The Trevor Project and LGBTQ youth
- Set your own personal goal in support of our campaign’s goal
- Invite your friends to give and communicate directly with them
- Track how much you and your friends have contributed
Good luck and thanks for your support!
