Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

This November, I'm writing a novel. An entire novel, started from scratch, and completed in just one month, as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).

And you thought nothing interesting ever happened in November.

This will be my third year participating in NaNoWriMo. In 2009, I wrote a 50,000 word novel and in 2010 I wrote a 90,000 word novel. This year I plan to go higher!

NaNoWriMo is free. I'm raising money to help the nonprofit that runs it build communities in classrooms, coffee shops, libraries, and living rooms all over the world and help the inspiration flow for me and thousands of my fellow novelists.

Every dollar I raise will keep my spirits high as I write my way towards the realization of my creative goals. More importantly, your contribution will help The Office of Letters and Light build a more engaged and inspiring world.

Thank you so much for your support of my writing! I'll be posting updates on my novel and fundraising on my sponsorship page throughout the month.

From the NaNoWriMo website:

"Your $100 donation pays for five libraries or indie bookstores to receive a great Come Write In noveling kit, designed to help public libraries become high-velocity noveling zones and encourage more of their community to get writing.

Put another way, your $100 donation will keep the lights (and heat!) on, water flowing, and high-speed internet crackling at the Office of Letters and Light for an entire week, allowing us to moderate 25,000 forums posts, write 1,500 emails, conduct 70 hours of Twitter Word Sprints, post ten Procrastination Stations, create three NaNoVideos, and send out three pep talks."

Pep talks are sent out every year by professional authors. Last years list included:

Dave Eggers

John Green

Lemony Snicket

and more!

Oh and of course there are 'writers goodies' I would get for donating certain amounts of money through sponsorship. :D (Usually including things like buttons, stickers, and coffee mugs)

Raise $10 in donations, and you get:

  • Bonus pep talks from NaNoWriMo Founder Chris Baty and various published NaNoWriMo authors.
  • A donor halo on your NaNoWriMo.org author profile
  • A listing on the NaNoWriMo Brought to You By Page

Raise $25 and you get:

  • A 3" by 8" NaNoWriMo bumper sticker
  • A beautiful thank-you bookmark signed by NaNoWriMo Program Director Lindsey Grant and NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program Director Chris Angotti
  • And everything in the $10 package!
