UPDATE (5/19/12): I am thrilled to announce that we met, then SMASHED our target of $75,000 to bring home 32 U.S. soldiers’ pets from Iraq before June 1. Thanks to your generosity, we have raised $83,845 to date. This means that all 32 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens will be coming home before the air embargo begins. If they hadn't been rescued, most, if not all of them, would have been sadly left to roam the Baghdad streets without their soldier moms and dads to look out for them -- a sure death sentence. What a horrible burden that would have been for the soldiers, on top of everything else they have suffered for our country. But now, soldiers and pets will be reunited on American soil, all because of YOU.
Funds raised in excess of the target will be used to transport pets as soon as the ban on air travel is lifted several months from now. Today, those dogs and cats are with soldiers who also have several months remaining in their tour -- and some may not have even found their new owners. The selfless SPCA International personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan will continue their work for as long as funding permits.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR OPENING YOUR HEARTS! It DOES make a difference!

U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan befriend local animals as a way to help cope with the emotional hardships they endure every day while deployed in a war zone. The Operation Baghdad Pups program provides veterinary care and coordinates complicated logistics and transportation requirements in order to reunite these beloved pets with their service men and women back in the U.S. These important animals not only help our heroes in the war zone, but they also help them readjust to life back home after combat.
Without Operation Baghdad Pups, a majority of service members could not afford to bring their special companions home from the Middle East. Your donation will help us provide soldiers with travel crates, vaccinations, transportation for their animal to the Baghdad Airport and transport home.
Here are the facts:
$20 can provide absorbent pads, food, and water for a dog or cat while they travel
$75 can buy an airline crate for transport
$150 can cover the cost of vaccinations and travel paperwork
$4,000 to save one animal
Please, help today and start your own personal fundraising page. Share this with your family and friends and spread the word about how important this program is to our troops.
The process is fast, easy and secure. Thank you for your support!
