Bladder cancer is the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, yet most people know nothing about it.
Last year, over 70,000 people in the US were diagnosed with bladder cancer and over 14,000 people died from it.
On Saturday, May 5, 2012, people across the country will be joining the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network to Walk for Bladder Cancer. I am walking to raise money for the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) and their programs supporting bladder cancer research and education.
While not everyone knows, I have now been cancer free for almost three years after having bladder cancer for 15 +/- years, as the result of a radical cystectomy and neo-bladder surgery. During the early years it was a struggle to be informed of bladder cancer and its potential impact upon my health. I did not become aware of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network until the past few years, but in that time I have become a more significantly informed cancer survivor and through BCAN have been willing to share some of my story with others so that together we will live better lives despite the effects of having cancer. BCAN is also a great tool to family and friends of those with bladder cancer who want to be educated about this disease or have questions, but don't know where to turn for the answers.
To continue the good work of BCAN I have decided to join in the walk for bladder cancer and hope you will join me by making a donation, (if you want) walking with me, and helping raise awareness of this disease. Education and advocacy is the first step.
Please consider making a donation right now. The process is fast, easy, and secure, and your donation will make a difference.
