I am currently an 11th grade student living in Koreatown, Los Angeles, attending school in the Pacific Palisades. Getting to and from school everyday means a 20 mile commute via school bus. On top of that, I manage juggling 5 AP classes, playing Lacrosse, being a part of MESA - an engineering program -, tutoring other students during school hours, being President and founder of an 80+ member community service club called KIWIN'S under the Kiwanis organization, and being a Cabinet member in JSA. My high school life is exigent and strenous yet I seem to get by especially due to the great support that my mom and dad give me and due to my personal knack for organization and optimizing and managing my time. Currently, I have interests and passions in several distinct fields including Business, Environmental Science, and Sociology and I hope that one day I could blend and apply these different aspects of my passions into a potential career and make a wholesome impact on my community. In my leisure time, I usually hang out with friends, listen to and experiment with music from a palette of genres, play with my 13 year old Yorkshire Terrier, and ride my bike.
I first found out about JSA during Club Day of my Junior Year and ever since then, I have become a more dedicated member. This year, I served as the Director of Expansion for our chapter, and attended both Winter Congress and Spring State. My involvement in JSA began with my intrinsic aptness and fervor for debating and looking at things in a logical and rational way. Through JSA, I am always learning. Whether it be about the current political news and topics or about how to become a better public speaker and debater, learning never stops for me and I am continually growing. I was recently elected to be the President of the Palisades Chapter which is possibly one of my own personal greatest achievements. There is so much I want to bring to my school's chapter and I hope that next year, alongside my Co-President and Cabinet, we can truly make an impact on campus, and in the local community. On May 24th, we're actually hosting a Voter Registration Day on our school campus to help eligible seniors get registered to vote in time for this year's election. It's small, but it's a good step in the right direction and a win for Democracy. This JSA Summer School opportunity presented itself to me as another chance for me to learn and grow all the while become more involved in JSA.
JSA's Summer School programs are very prestigious and recognized nationally as well as certified by the CollegeBoard for their Advanced Placement Courses. While these courses are in fact Summer classes, they are not easy and will require an immense amount of work, dedication, and hard-working which I intend to put in.
For example, its AP U.S. Government & Politics class which I plan to take is the equivalent to a 1-semester class at a regular high school if not more challenging and in-depth. The course covers the intensive 'AP Gov' curriculum and will be taught by university profesors. It incorporates thorough lectures, extensive reading, and student-run debates in the Congressional Workshop practicum and requires 3 essay examinations as well as a 12-15 page final term research paper. The rigor of this course matches a college-level course and is something that I know will impact me greatly. Overall, the class meets 6 days a week for a total of 85 hours. We will be staying at actual college dormitories and we will pretty much be living the lifestyle of a college student.
The $4500 for tuition, housing, and food is a hefty sum on my family and thus a financial obstacle for me to attend this extremely valuable and meaningful program. This is why I am asking for your contributions. Any donation of any sum whatsoever will definitely be a huge help for me and will make a great impact on my life.
This experience will surely help me grow as a person and a student and even prepare me for independent living as I will be away from home for a month. I hope to learn so much from this opportunity in Stanford as I make new friends, try new things, develop character, responsibility and find out more about myself as well as the college lifestyle. As a junior, this summer is so essential for me and using it as a learning experience in a wholly new environment with new people is something that I'm looking forward to.
Once I am at the JSA Summer School program at Stanford, I will make sure to update via email, once a week (if not more often), of what exactly I have been up to for that week, how I'm spending my time at JSA Summer School in Stanford, and any new updates along with photographs of the things that happened throughout my week. I plan on showing that your contributions are not being wasted and that I am getting the most out of the JSA program. Therefore, please make sure to include your email and expect future updates.

FUTURE PLANS
My career plans are unlike those of most JSA-ers. I do not wish to enter politics, but I still have a fervent interest in the Social Sciences. While government and politics is extremely enjoyable, my dream is to manage an eco-friendly business. My college aspirations are not set in stone, but I do want to major in one of three majors: Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, or Sociology / Anthropology. There has been a lot that has sculpted my aims in life. School as a whole has affected so much of my decisions; from the clubs that I'm a part of to the classes I take, I've figured much more about myself than I could have alone. It's through interactions with others that I was able to get a feel for what I actually like and what I'm good at, as well as what I'm really bad at. To be honest, I always thought that if I tried my best at something, I could be good at it, and this year proved me so wrong. Being in MESA and taking AP PhysicsC, I learned the hard way that, I'm not someone who was made to do Physics or become an Engineer for a living. Further reinforcing my passions in the Social Sciences and the Environment, I was able to declare (to myself) that like Marshall from How I Met Your Mother, I wanted to pursue a career in the field of environmental science.
