Okay Hordelings, summer is here!
This year for summer camp I plan on revisiting the insanity that is November by writing a 50,000 word story during the month. Actually I plan on writing a novel, which (in my chosen genre) is in the 80k or greater range. Crazy, sure but sane is boring.
Since I have missed out on a few fundraising events the first part of this year, I am including one with this challenge. Specifically to support the Office of Letters and Light who puts together the NaNoWriMo events (including Camp NaNoWriMo for the summer) and the Young Writers Program. This group of aspiring and published authors isn't my geographic community but my support community for writing. As such this is my way of giving back.
But this doesn't mean that I am just putting out a hand and asking friends and family to support my insane addiction of coffee and words a couple months every year. Oh no. I'm offering you a chance to take part in the story. I am working up the options that you can contribute to "purchase" during this challenge and will post them to my blog by May 12, 2012. These will include things like naming a character in a book to choosing who/what that character is and more. So, if you ever caught yourself saying, "Would you put me in a book?" now is your chance.
For the record only two people have been crazy enough to say this to my face. One was dead before the book opened, spending the rest of the time as a ghost, and the other was an addict side character. You may what to pledge more to have some say in what the character you're naming will be. Just sayin'.
