Hawktober is an Awareness campaign designed to bring more attention to brain tumors, those diagnosed with them, and survivors. Our supporters will Rock da’ Hawk in October to raise Awareness and generate funds to be used throughout the brain tumor community.
In 2005, I moved to Austin,TX to complete a bachelor’s degree that was started back in the early 1990’s. While finishing my degree, I recreated myself professionally, translating a passion for sports into journalism and broadcasting jobs. That fledgling career was derailed four months after receiving my bachelor’s degree when I was diagnosed with a racquet ball-sized brain tumor in April 2007.
I had a “successful” craniotomy about 10 days after my diagnosis – a tricky surgery to remove a tumor that was wrapped around my brain stem. Successful is an interesting term in the medical field…the tumor was removed, but it wrecked shop on its way out. Five years later and I am still in recovery & rehab mode – having retrained myself to perform basic tasks like walking, talking and swallowing.
Now that I’m fairly adjusted to my “new normal”, I understand the importance of raising Awareness. My diagnosis came as a complete surprise and it required such quick action that learning about the tumor, surgery or recovery wasn’t a viable option. Please help me raise awareness and support the brain tumor community by making a donation through this page. The process is fast, easy and secure.
Hawktober's beneficiary partners include CERN Foundation and mAss Kickers Foundation. We work with a great mix of influencers in the brain tumor/cancer community - part of the reason we select organizations is because of how strategically they fit toogether in tems of awareness, research and support.
You can help me make a difference!
Thanks so much for your support... and please dont forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in donating!
