I am raising money to help veterans make the transition home.
This summer, five U.S. veterans will bicycle across the nation to prove that war-related wounds can be healed. This group of former service people includes men and women of diverse ages, backgrounds, and interests.
Their goal is simple: to use the road to heal their wounds from war, to draw attention to the fact that many veterans face difficulties coming home, and to raise funds for programs which allow veterans to heal.
And I will be documenting their entire journey!
My name is Kyle Hartnett. I am a veteran and filmmaker.
A few months ago, Casey Miller contacted me with an opportunity to make a documentary about a topic that is near and dear to my heart - veterans advocacy.
As a veteran myself, I've seen firsthand the toll that war can have on our service-members. I was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. I served with men who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I believe there is now a responsibility for those of us who have made it home to help our fellow veterans do the same.
And that is what I would like to do by telling this story. I will be following these five veterans as they bicycle across the country. I will be filming their struggle, posting web content as we go, and later, create a feature-length documentary from the life-changing experiences that they will share.
My goal is to raise $7,500 of the $75,000 needed to accomplish this year's ride. Monies above and beyond this goal will go towards supporting future rides and other non-profits that serve our troops. (www.longroadhomeproject.com).
Will you help me tell this incredible story?
Please donate to what I believe is a very worthy cause. Everything helps.
You can also help me reach my goal by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter! Consider joining my team to fundraise, and tell your friends and family that you believe in helping our veterans heal as they come home from the war.
