I am raising money to help veterans make the transition home.
I am riding 4,200 miles across America, over ninety-days, to help women in the armed forces, in memory of Army Private First Class LaVena Johnson.
After growing up in Troy, New York, which is officially "The Home of Uncle Sam," I've always believed citizenship is an opportunity to participate in something bigger than myself. This ride is a perfect fit for me. I'm exceedingly proud to help bring unity and awareness to veterans needs through sharing my own story, as I heal from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
This ride is also an incredible opportunity to demonstrate our region's pride, and unity, with communities throughout our nation.
Therefore, beginning in July 2012, I will join four other U.S. veterans, as we bicycle across the nation to prove that war-related wounds can be healed. Our group of former servicemembers includes men and women of diverse ages, backgrounds, and interests.
Our overall goal for this ride is simple: to use the road to heal our wounds from war, to draw attention to the fact that many veterans face difficulties coming home, and to raise funds for non-profit programs, which allow veterans to heal.
In order to make the Long Road Home Project a reality, I have committed to raise $5,000 by June 22nd. I need your help. You can donate by clicking on the green DONATE NOW button on the top right of this page.
Overall, $75,000 is needed to accomplish this year's ride. Donations above and beyond this will go toward supporting future rides, and, I will be able to influence to whom we donate extra funds, in order to help women veterans in need.
Please check out my blog, where I highlight the plight of military sexual trauma advocates. These advocates are working to enact change to Department of Defense policy for handling sexual assault. (www.sisterwomanwarrior.blogspot.com)
Let this be the Capital District's rallying cry to support our nation's troops, as they come back home, through your donation, today!
$2500 will cover food for one cyclist for 3 months.
$420 or $0.10 cents for the 4200 miles the cyclists will ride.
$250 or less than 1 penny for the 25 million veterans in the United States.
$90 or $1 for every day the cyclists will be on the road.
$50 or $10 for each cyclist of the Long Road Home Project.
You can also help me reach my goal by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter! Consider joining my team to fundraise, and tell your friends and family that you believe in helping our veterans heal as they come home from the war.
