$1,000 for a Nice Clean Shave –
Just the Right Price for a handsome Bearded California Surfer
Pacific Beach, CA – Josiah Fritz Hammer, also known as ‘The Hammer,’ is willing to go completely clean shaven for a simple $1,000.00 donation for him and his team that will support the Insulindependence cause. Mind you he has been growing this beard for one and a half years.
Hammer explains, “This is a personal journey but this run will be an accomplishment for the entire team of T1 Diabetics as well. I wanted to take it just a ‘hair’ further and offer up something very personal to raise some money for this great cause.”
Hammer’s beard currently measures 7 inches and growing; it conjures up memories of Grizzly Adams. If $1,000 is a bit steep, Hammer has offered a quarter inch for each $50 donation. Let’s make his mom happy too and give him a clean shave prior the race, Mom says “it can’t happen soon enough!”
The donations are part of the goal that Hammer set for his participation in the SoCal Ragnar Relay on April 19th – 20th 2013. The event is a grueling 24-hour, 200 mile, 12-person-team relay race that directly benefits Insulindependence.org, a T1D Non Profit Organization based in Solana Beach California. Starting south of Los Angeles in beautiful Huntington Beach we will head south down the pacific coast. Along the way we will pass through Anaheim, Carlsbad, Del Mar and La Jolla. The race and stamina will wrap up in San Diego at Embarcadero Marina Park South.
Hammer’s dedication is very personal as he himself is a Type 1 Diabetic for many years but it has changed for the better since joining Insulindependence where health through fitness and diet have really made a significant impact on his life!. His completion of the race will be a major accomplishment and a reflection on his diabetic fight while bringing greater awareness to a great cause and just another leg in the race for a cure!
“I’m so proud of my son,” explained Peter Hammer, The Hammer’s father. “Not only has he taken the steps to make a difference in his own life, literally he is now taking it on the chin for others – and is always willing to make some grand sacrifices as such.”
Anyone can make the donation – women who would prefer a clean shaven man (and maybe a date) or maybe you’re a barber that would like to make the donation to take on the challenge, quite possibly you would like to see what Grizzly Adams would like cleanly shaven. The top donor is welcome and encouraged to be there as the “fur” flies (transportation and lodging not included). If you would like to assist in the efforts, donations can be made at www.stayclassy.org/t1dhammer. And The Hammer has offered a before and after photo opportunity both prior and post shaving with the donor along with the President and founder of Insulindependence - Peter Nerothin at their monthly local Dawn Phenom Surfing event in La Jolla.
