Liza Chance was my best friend and the love of my life. She touched all those she knew with her boundless energy, keen sense of humor, and bright smile. Liza was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer in 2005—already an advanced stage of the disease. She fought hard through the surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, always holding her head up high and living life as though she were cancer free.
The world lost Liza on May 23, 2010 at the young age of 44.
Ovarian cancer, which is the deadliest of the gynecologic cancers, claims approximately 15,000 women a year. Although scientific research has made major breakthroughs in treating other types of cancer, the mortality rates for ovarian cancer have not improved in the last 40 years.
Shortly before her death, Liza requested people make donations in her memory to the Humane Society, musing that there was “nothing being done for ovarian cancer.”
I want to change that.
I’ve partnered with the Foundation for Women’s Cancer to establish a research grant in Liza’s name that will be awarded to the most promising team nationally in ovarian cancer research.
We need to raise $54,000 to establish this grant. With your help, I believe we can meet and surpass this goal. Donate today in honor of Liza Chance and help us spread the magic of “Lizapalooza” everywhere!

About Foundation for Women’s Cancer
Headquartered in Chicago, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer was established in 1991 by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) primarily to increase funding for gynecologic cancer research. Since that time its mission has expanded to include awareness about the prevention and early detection of cancers unique to women, and education about the optimal treatment for women with a gynecologic cancer diagnosis.
