Brian Hackenburg

I am 36 years old from Sandusky, Ohio and an 18 year veteran of the fire service. Married to my beautiful wife Amy with 2 beautiful young daughters. I began as a volunteer at a neighboring department that was always in need of financial assistance to buy the necessary equipment to protect ourselves to serve the community. I have been a full-time firefighter in Northern Ohio since Dec. 2000 and know the importance of having the best equipment needed to safely perform this job.

I will competing in numerous Ironman Triathlons,Marathons, and other Triathlons events throughout the year to raise money for the National Firefighters Endowment. If I reach my goal this year, I plan to compete in the final Full Rev3 in September at Cedar Point in full turnout gear and airpack. So, please help me reach this goal.

The National Firefighter Endowment is important me to because it focuses on protecting the lives of Firefighters all across the nation. Every fire department in this nation needs the necessary equipment to protect themselves and make the community a safer place. Afterall, coming home to my family and protecting the brother firefighters and I work with and the community I protect is the Number 1 part of this job.

I plan to compete in the following events for the fundraising:

Toledo Marathon- To try and quality for The Boston Marathon

Ohio Police And Fire Games

Ironman Muncie

Ironman Benton Harbor

2 HFP Olympic Triathlon Events

Full Rev Cedar Point 2.4 mile swim, 112 bike, 26.2 mile marathon.

With great inspiration from Fireman Rob of Wisconsin, I will run the 26.2 mile marathon portion in full PPE and Air Pack if my goal is met.

I'd also like to take a minute to give Thanks To Fire Lieutenant Paul at First Due Tackle for all his help. http://firstduetackle.com/

About

The Organization:

National Firefighters Endowment

National Firefighters Endowment is a non-profit, public charity with a driving passion to protect the lives of our firefighters. We believe that small actions can have life altering results and that the right equipment in the hands of our heroes can literally be the difference between life and death. You can probably recall being asked as a child what you wanted to do when you grew up. If you are on our site it’s probably because you said something along the lines of a firefighter, or maybe a police man or woman. Probably even an astronaut for a bit. More than likely it wasn’t because you were concerned with your career path or having a JOB. What you really wanted to be was BRAVE, ADVENTUROUS, and to have an impact that was larger than life itself. It is that same child-like ambition that drives National Firefighters Endowment to spark innovative ideas, forge collaborations and shape creative grantmaking to ensure that our childhood heroes have the proper equipment to carry on the legend of the fire service and to come home safely to their families.
