As some of you may or may not know, I went to Europe last summer.  One of the many highlights of running around London, Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Paris, and Aix En Provence in a less than sober state was actually re-connecting with some family that I haven't seen in years.

In addition to hanging with members of my mom's family and members of the BK East Coast Family, I got to hang out with some of my dad's family as well.  (SPOILER ALERT) Unfortunately, one of my cousins, Andrew, who lives in Cambridge, England was out of the country when I was visiting, but I did have the opportunity to spend an entire day in Cambridge with his adorable 2 year old daughter, his wife, baby son, and my aunt.  Quick fun fact, on my mom's side, I have 24 first cousins (yeah, that's the Catholic side).  On my dad's side, we only have 2 (Andrew and Michael).

About 15 years ago, Andrew was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and at the time, he was not given a positive outlook.  I even remember my dad preparing himself for the worst.  As you know, (thanks to the spoiler alert above), this story has a very happy ending.  Andrew is now a teacher in Cambridge, he's married to a doctor who looks like the hot red-head from "Zero Dark Thirty" and has two wicked adorable kids with cute little British accents.  It's hard to think that there was a chance that Alice and I wouldn't have had our lunch-time colors debate.  Unfortunately, not everyone's story has a happy ending, which brings me to the next part...

As some of you know, last year I was fundraising for a tournament called Tap-Cancer-Out.  This year, the tournament has a little more meaning for me now that I realize how close I came to losing a family member.  2012 was a huge year for me, and even though we're only 2 months in 2013, it's already turning out to be another winner.  I'd love to keep the good vibes alive and spread my good fortune to others through this charity.
