My Belief…

I believe Kindness works like the ripples in a pond after a stone has been dropped, a person who’s received will be more likely to give back, or pay it forward. Imagine the potential!

I believe children who are witnesses to the injustices of the world; who experience poverty, illness and violence, but are given the opportunity to rise above it, are much more likely to make the most of such opportunities, such as education, and feel a strong desire to give back to their communities. I have seen countless examples of this, my own included. So now it’s my turn to pay it forward.

The Project…

I have been given the privilege to team up with Our Lady of Perpetual Support (OLPS) in Kisumu, Kenya to continue construction of the OLPS Rescue Center! With your help, it is my goal to complete this center so that no more time goes by where children identified as “at risk” have to endure unsuitable, unsafe living situations.

Once completed, the Kisumu Children’s Rescue Center will provide safe housing, nourishment, health-care, education, much love, and even counseling for orphans and vulnerable children, with an emphasis on girls, as they are always most at risk. In this way, the project aims to restore children’s innate sense of belonging, self-confidence and love, and open them up to a world of opportunities. The center will house 20+ children throughout the year who’ve been orphaned by HIV/AIDS while proper alternative housing is secured for them. The impact of this is immeasurable as this Center will serve the entire community, and have a ripple effect for generations to come!

I hope you will see through my eyes the potential that lies dormant in the at risk youth of Kisumu, Kenya… these are future doctors, farmers, community leaders.

They are now seeds of untapped potential, and you and I are the showers of hope and generosity that will unlock that potential, turning victims into survivors and survivors into fruitful, thriving individuals that will give back to their communities just as they themselves have received.

So please click on the big orange button above and Make It Rain!!

Please donate, pass it on, tell you friends, throw a fundraiser, a potluck with a cover fee, donate a class, donate a service, call me, write me, I have lots of ideas on how you can help make this dream a reality!!

Valerie Camila Rhodes: HUGE THANKS to everyone who's joined this project & given their support. A lot has been done in the last 5 months thanks to you. Now the rains are coming to Kenya and threaten to damage some of our work unless we secure funding to weatherproof parts of the house. We're so close to reaching our fundraising goal, and finishing the house. And I am leaving so soon! Can you help us by enlisting others to join? These are tax deductible donations and 100% goes to the project. Help us beat the rains!
